Washington DC Alumni Chapter Reaches Milestone in 2013

DC Chapter Gives Dental Care to the Elderly

The Holocaust Survivors Program for Dental Care (a combined pro-bono oral health endeavor of the US Foundation, the Washington Alumni Chapter, Jewish Social Services Agency and the Maimonides Dental Society) eclipsed the century mark in the number of patients served.

Today, 106 elderly patients and growing have received at least one dental procedure. Dental procedures are not limited to cleanings and oral health exams. They may include denture alignments and fabricating, root canals, extractions and certain periodontal work. More than 45 dentists in the Washington Chapter have seen at least one patient. Many dentists have seen the same patient more than once for treatment. As a result, many fraters have developed a personal relationship with a holocaust survivor.

Additionally, many Washington Chapter members volunteer their time at the Hebrew Home. The residents at the nursing home receive annual oral health exams as mandated by the state of Maryland. They receive a wide variety of dental care through one of the two dental clinics located in the Hebrew Home.
