Millie Selinger's Story: A Journey of Resilience |
Millie Selinger, the wife of Larry Selinger, previous Chair of the Alpha Omega US Dental Foundation, is known for her book Hidden in the Open, in which she recounts the story of her and her family's survival and resilience during and after the Holocaust.
Born in Poland in 1938, Millie was just a year old when the Nazis invaded. To survive, her mother adopted Ukrainian identities for the family, changing their names and living as Christians with the help of a priest. They hid in plain sight, even hanging swastikas in their home while secretly aiding the underground resistance. Nearly 40 of Millie’s relatives were killed in Nazi death camps.
After the war, the family made their way to Germany and eventually arrived in New York City in 1948. Despite the trauma, Millie learned English by fifth grade and found strength within her Jewish community. Today, she lives in Florida and continues to share her powerful story of survival and hope.
The Alpha Omega US Dental Foundation remains committed to supporting Holocaust survivors through the Alpha Omega–Henry Schein Cares Holocaust Survivors Oral Health Program, which offers comprehensive dental care to survivors living in poverty across North America. Unique Publishing Opportunity
Exclusively for Alpha Omega International Dental Society Members |
| |
The Alpha Omega International Dental Society are excited to announce a renewed initiative for Alpha Omega members to have exclusive access for publishing your research and/or case reviews in the Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry, a highly respected, peer-reviewed dental publication indexed in PubMed.
When Alpha Omega discontinued its own journal due to cost, Compendium honored the Journal’s founding editors, Dr. D. Walter Cohen and his father, Dr. Abram Cohen, by providing a dedicated section for AO member contributions. While this tradition continues, our presence in the journal has diminished in recent years.
We invite all interested AO members to join us in contributing to this effort. Let’s work together to bring Alpha Omega’s voice—and excellence—back to the pages of Compendium.
To learn how you can publish your research, please reply directly to this email. |

Supporting the Mental Well-Being of Our Israeli Dental Community |
We invite you to join the International Alliance of Alpha Omega Charitable Organizations in establishing a dedicated fund for The Maurice and Gabriela Goldschleger School of Dental Medicine at Tel Aviv University and the Hebrew University-Hadassah Faculty of Dental Medicine. Both institutions are struggling to provide essential psychological services for their faculty and students.
As Jewish dentists, we have a profound responsibility to stand with our Israeli colleagues. We implore you to take action and support our fellow Alpha Omegans in need. |

Why should you support the tribute program? The income from the tribute program is essential for funding smaller, yet impactful initiatives. Without this support, we wouldn’t be able to respond to the many requests we receive from chapters and partners across the United States and Israel. Every dollar from tributes directly supports these initiatives, empowering us to make a difference where it matters most.
Help make a difference today! |
