Peace Begins with a Smile
Providing emergency dental care to Syrian children and families who crossed into Israel during the Syrian Civil War.
Welcomed by Israeli physicians with compassion and expertise, these patients received specialized dental care when they needed it most. For many, it was their first experience with the very people they had been taught to fear.
Through the support of the Alpha Omega US Dental Foundation, more than 1,500 Syrian patients received emergency and specialized dental care at Ziv Medical Center. For many children, Peace Begins with a Smile marked their very first visit to a dentist.

Peace Begins with a Smile
The Alpha Omega US Dental Foundation helped establish a children’s care center and an oral maxillofacial center at Ziv Hospital in Safed, Israel.
Ziv Hospital has cared for over 1,500 Syrian individuals, many of whom were children, who arrived in dire conditions at the Israeli border by foot. With the assistance of the Israel Defense Force personnel, the individuals were brought to the hospital and treated by the Israeli doctors who helped them and cured them.
This powerful initiative not only provided critical medical care but also fostered a shift in attitudes among individuals from both sides of the border, who may have previously been influenced by inherited biases. By delivering high-quality treatment with compassion, it has helped cultivate hope for peace and mutual understanding.
