When the Story Feels Personal |
Dear Friends, As we gather around our Seder tables this Passover, we are not only recounting an ancient story, we are confronting a reality unfolding in our own time.
For the past 29 months, Israel and our people have been fighting existential threats to our very existence. Our fellow Jews in Israel have endured relentless brutality, profound loss, and ongoing trauma on a scale that is difficult to comprehend. Families have been torn apart. Lives have been taken. Entire communities have been shaken to their core.
At home, we face antisemitism at an all time high, and we are witnessing degradation in the relationship between Israel and the American public, both on the right and the left, fueled by disinformation, ignorance, and accelerated by social media. This moment in time can feel unbearable. The Jewish people, both in Israel and in the diaspora, feel as if we are under siege, and the themes of Passover no longer feel distant or symbolic —they are immediate and deeply personal. Dr. Mijal Bitton, a visiting researcher at NYU Wagner Graduate School of Public Service and expert in Jewish identity and community, often refers to "crisis being a catalyst, not a foundation. It can crack you open, but it cannot keep you whole." Dear friends, we are in a crisis, cracked open, feeling raw, and searching for ways to keep us whole.
Our response is as follows, as articulated so beautifully by my Rabbi David Glanzberg Kranin. We choose not to support Israel out of some tribal impulse, but instead, understand that we are motivated by a clear moral vision. There is a difference between a democracy fighting for survival and a theocratic regime committed to genocide. That difference matters, and we must say so. We must act in our interest, without apology.
We choose to stay "whole" by taking direct action to address the consequences of this moment. There are numerous projects with which we are involved, but we wish to highlight one close to our hearts. Working with our partner AO Charitable organizations, we have launched a program to confront the very real and lasting impact of PTSD within the Israeli dental community, ensuring that those affected are given the care, resources, and pathways needed to heal and move forward. Our work helps rebuild lives and Renew Minds, Restoring Hope is exactly what this moment requires, not feeling defeated or broken, but finding creative and innovative ways to remain whole. We cannot undo what has happened. But we can shape what comes next, with intention, with responsibility, and with a steadfast commitment to restore, rebuild, and strengthen our people. Thank you for standing with us in this work. Your partnership ensures that, even in a time of profound pain, we are building a future defined by resilience, purpose, and hope. Wishing you and your loved ones a meaningful Passover. Chag Sameach, |

Rebuilding the Dental Clinic at Kibbutz Be'eri |
The Philadelphia Alpha Omega Chapter, fundraising initiative lead by Joe Breitman, Eric Cantor, Bernie Dishler and Marc Rothman recently distributed close to $71,000 alongside a collective €15,000 from our French chapters - €12,000 from Strasbourg and €3,000 from Belgium. This international support is further strengthened by a commitment from Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael (KKL) in Israel to match contributions by up to 25%, amplifying the impact of every gift. With a clear and unwavering commitment from We are Be'eri, 100% of these funds are restricted exclusively for transforming the space into a state-of-the-art dental facility, including dental operatories and chairs, advanced imaging and X-ray technology, sterilization systems, laboratory tools, and specialized clinical instruments. No funds are used for “brick and mortar” expenses such as construction, structural work, or utilities. This is more than rebuilding—it is a direct investment in care.
We continue to raise the funds needed to rebuild and equip the dental clinic at Kibbutz Be’eri. Your support makes this possible. Click the link to donate today: https://aofus.org/beeri/

AO Member Spotlight - Leela Breitman |
Meet Dr. Leela Breitman, Alpha Omega member, prosthodontist, and co-founder of My Dental Key.
While studying at Harvard School of Dental Medicine, Leela and fellow students recognized a gap in how dental students learn complex preclinical and clinical procedures. Drawing on their own experiences in dental school, they co-founded My Dental Key to create a more accessible, modern learning resource for students.
My Dental Key is an online learning platform that helps students learn clinical and preclinical dentistry through video tutorials, illustrations, photographs, notes, and step-by-step procedures, making quality dental education more accessible to students worldwide. With learners in 110+ countries, 100 lessons and counting, 15 academic advisors, and 6 specialties, the platform continues to expand its reach and impact.
